When You Do Exactly What You Want
July 7, 2010
Day two! Saturday morning called for a real breakfast. Not my usual bowl of cereal and small coffee. I needed eggs, toast, and a pot of coffee. Morgan knew just the spot…Yolk. A place that draws a line out the front door before 10am. It’s OK, we got to make up for lost hugs.
Once in, we got the Blue Bayou Fritatta – Blue cheese, bacon, fresh spinach, and tomatoes scrambled together and baked. I can’t say that it was a hangover cure, but it was a key remedy.
After lunch, we made a bee line for the pool.
I snapped one picture, from a distance, of Morgan kicking the first couple out of his sun chairs (They’re technically his because his friend gave them to him and he keeps them by the pool. They also don’t match the others…). I say first couple because he kicked one couple off, then went upstairs for half an hour, then came back down and kicked another couple off. They didn’t have very nice things to say, but Morgan gets a kick out of it. Kind of goes to show you what kind of a character we’re dealing with here. 🙂
Morgie also invited his friends over to make it a little pool-side, early b-day party. Old Scooter, here, thought he could rub the drops of lotion in before I snapped a picture of him…he was mostly right.
These guys look like trouble…
Once we were feeling sufficiently crisp, Lea and I decided to go for a little walk about town to see Lake Michigan and everything else along the way.
Fourth Presbyterian Church. (Across Michigan Ave from John Hancock building)
And the pot of gold at the end of our trail…North Ave Beach.
I’ve heard people say that this is for people who don’t have pools, but it looks alright to me!
The walk back continued to show why Chicago is renowned for its architecture.
Well, maybe not this one so much. But in a way, kind of…
Lea and I stopped by Whole Foods on the way home to pick up a CA-style snack. Wine, grapes, baguette, and cheese. Morgan already had something special in mind. A 2000 Cab he brought back with him from Margaret River, Australia. He’s been holding onto it for six years, and decided today was finally the day. I’m glad he decided to share this with us because it was…well, great! It drank like an old, good wine – delicate, but still good to the last drop.
A good sunset also always makes wine a little bit better.
A setting sun was our queue to shower up and get our night clothes on. 🙂
BTW – Here’s a picture of how I got my camera to stay still in the dark shots (below).
Morgasm’s party festivities were not yet complete! Not by a long shot. We met some of his crew at Butterfly Sushi Bar. I was blown away by the quality and extravagant presentation of these rolls. Especially for the price! Not cheap, but no NoBu. And at the end, we all screamed happy birthday. 🙂 It was awesome.
When it came down to it, a late Friday night and full day in the sun left us all a bit wiped. So we went back to the pad, changed into some comfy clothes, and enjoyed the view from the balcony. (Fireworks started a day early in a few of the western ‘burbs).
I can’t help but keep posting this picture. It’s my favorite, maybe, ever.
(Joy is technically not standing in this photo, though it looks like she is a goblin midget dwarf small person). Oooh, I’ll get hell for this later…
That’s it for today childrens. Check back next time to see how we spent the Fourth of July. No, make that Jew-ly (inside joke – can’t share).
Cheers!
