OK, You Can Call It A Comeback
January 4, 2010
Like I said – long time no blog. While I was slaving most of my free waking hours away on this website, I did manage to get out once in a while. 🙂 Here’s what you didn’t see.
We still got some good hikes in, and I’m loving the durability of my new camera. Waterproof, and all.
My Main Man Morgan came out to visit…again. If we’re keeping score, Morgan’s winning by about 20 to zip. Don’t worry man, I’m gonna put some points on the board!
He wanted some R & R in wine country, so that’s what we gave him. We went up to Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma and had some fantastic wines on a phenomenal day. JP invited a friend of a friend, Niki, who recently relocated to the bay area. She, like us, is indigenous to Iowa, so it was funny to meet a complete stranger in Northern California who had so many of the same friends and acquaintances back home as us!
Did I mention it was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally pretty?
This shot was taken in October after the grapes had been picked. They missed a couple clusters, and you can see them starting to raisin-ate on the vine. These are so very sweet because the sugars have been allowed to continue to develop in the fruit. If you made wine out of this, it would be dessert.
We also got him out on the trail with us! Always a good sport.
JP had a GF….
…But now he doesn’t.
Our nephew, Tyler, celebrated his 5th birthday! Ask him how old he is and he’ll flash a fistful of metatarsals. That’s my boy!
The paparazzi was there.
We couldn’t resist getting something for Tyler’s sister, Katelyn, too. Cuteness like that comes with powers that I hope she will, one day, learn to use for good and not evil. For now, she’s figured out how to make us want to buy her a present for her brother’s birthday. She’s good…
The adults celebrated with margaritas. Bob has PERFECTED The Margarita. It’s worthy of it’s own future post, so check back for that.
Oh! And who could forget Thanksgiving? We had lots of good stuff to eat and drink.
We had a 26 lb bird, which, initially, barely fit in the roasting pan. These pictures show its evolution from bacteria host to celebrated delicacy.
You can’t see my plate, but it’s under the food. I was literally full for three days after this meal (didn’t stop me from eating, though).
We had some other turkeys around, too. Just look at these happy faces! A new face at our house this year was a friend of JP’s, Jolene. While she hales from Australia, she was stateside during Turkey Day, and was able to negotiate some time to spend with us for the holiday. Besides smittening us with her Aussie charm, she serenaded us with her classically trained violin skills. You just have to love a holiday that was created for the simple act of reflecting on the good stuff and saying, “thank you.”
Well, there’s a lot more than that to show you, but enough looking back. Time to get this thing off the ground and start looking forward! Next post – New Year’s in San Diego!
