Yep, there it is.  Today’s the day I left my heart in San Francisco.  We’ve been preparing for this event for month’s now, but it seems the longer we wait, the more surreal the whole experience feels when it finally happens.  We moved down to Marina Del Rey, CA on Saturday, and flew back up to SF for a day for our final wrap-up.  Project launch, exit interview, and at least a dozen heart-felt hugs.  Oh man, this is it.

Just being away from the bay for four days was enough to feel a little bit “home sick.” In a way I didn’t anticipate.  I’ve never felt this way about any place but Iowa.  In the airport this morning, I saw the same views that I remember seeing Memorial Day weekend 3 years ago when Lea and I flew out from NY to scout for a new place to live.  In a flash, I realized I’m getting older.  And that I’m less growing into adulthood as I am a (nearly) full-grown adult.

After a brief morning in the office, Lea and I walked to Twitter HQ to have lunch with Kelly.  Sorry, no pictures, but as you might imagine, the place is pretty sweet.  It’s ultra modern, but in a SF way, not a European way.  Each conference room is named for a different bird (think cuckoo, magpie and sandpiper).  And maybe best of all – the food is FREE.  All of it!  They’ve got main dishes, a salad bar and make-your-own sandwiches.  As well as fully stocked beverage and snack bars.

After lunch, Lea and I continued on our intrepid way to the top of Nob Hill, and on to Top of the Mark.  That is, top of the Mark Hopkins Hotel.

The views are stunning, and quite a way to say goodbye to the city.

To top it off, my friend, Erin, gave us a stellar bottle of Cab that we couldn’t carry on our flight back to L.A., so we uncorked it…and CASHED it.  Helluva way to spend a Wednesday afternoon.

As I write this, I’m sitting on the plane bound for LAX, both excited and a little apprehensive for what this transition will bring.  On the one hand, I know that I’m following my dream.  But on the other hand…L.A.?  Oh boy, here we go!
